Turquoise

Meet Turquoise, a sweet little owl that feels “Love Will Save the Day” and you will find her most nights signing the David Usher song by that title.

How this character came to be. I start all me illustrations in the same way. Bristol card
stock cut into a square. I preferred brand is Strathmore Bristol vellum surface 300
Series 100lb. My various circle and oval templates, HB pencil, Copic multiple-liner pens
and Copic Sketch markers. I also have a small ruler, a white and a kneaded.

Step One

Step One

Using your pencil and templates create the character. Usually at this stage I little
personality starts to peek through. Step two is when that personality starts to shine.
You will have lines that you don’t need so be sure to use a light touch when making
these first marks so that they do not but grooves into the paper and it will make it easier
to eraser in step 3.

Step Two

With the Copic multi-liner pen – I like to use either the size .2 or the .25 finalize the lines
of the character. I use the Copic ones because they do not bleed with the markers.

Step Three

Erase the pencil lines with the white and kneaded erasers. I wait a few moments before
I erase to be sure the pen is dry. Select your colours and colour in the character and see them come to life.
